You may be testing all year groups progression every term or half-term? You may also be testing in preparation for end of key stage exams?

This can be applied to an individual Maths, Science or English department or any combination of them within your school.

    alfie|qbank is available for Maths, Science and English. A secondary school may wish to calculate the sum for an individual department whereas a primary school will need to apply the costs to all core subjects.

      The amount of times the tests are undertaken. Progress tests may typically be taken every half-term, in which case "6" should be selected.

    • Year Groups Tested

      Primary schools have the year groups Foundation, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6. You may only test four of the possible seven year groups e.g. 3, 4, 5 & 6, in which case "4off" should be selected.

      Secondary schools have the year groups 7, 8, 9, 10 & 11. alfie|qbank for key stage 3 may be used to test three of the year groups e.g. 7, 8 & 9, in which case "3off" should be selected.

    • Pages

      A typical past paper would consists of 24 pages, in which case "24" should be entered. If delivering a series of test papers e.g. A, B & Mental this number may easily grow above 50.

    • Setup time per test (mins)

      This is the time it would take to create or select your own test and then oversee or execute the print production.

    • Marking time per pupil script (mins)

      The time it takes to mark a test paper for an individual pupil. A test containing 20 question items with 15 seconds spent marking each item would take five minutes, in which case "5" should be entered.

    • Analysis time per test (mins)

      This is the time it would take to enter the pupils details and their respective test results into a spreadsheet or similar analysis application and then create/execute commands to provide group & individual reporting.

  • End of Year Tests (e.g. Optional Tests)

    • Frequency (per year) National Tests

      The amount of times the tests are undertaken. A number of National Test Past Papers may be taken as exam preparation prior to an end of key stage test - this could be as many as ten past papers, in which case "10" should be selected.

Photocopying and laser printing incurs a cost every time a copy is made in addition to the cost of paper.

You may also be paying for DTP software or Testbase to create your paper tests? Or you may be paying QCDA for paper-based Optional Tests?

Cost of Printing

  • Copying/Toner cost per impression (pence)

    Every time a side of paper is printed on there is a cost. Photocopiers may have a set "click" charge payable to a service company and laser printers need consumables such as toner. These charges are made "per impression" e.g. every time one side of paper is printed on.
